About the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique, developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, breaks work into 25-minute intervals separated by short breaks. After every four work sessions, you take a longer break. The idea is to reduce the impact of interruptions and mental fatigue.

This timer handles the session tracking for you. When a phase ends, the timer beeps and automatically displays the next phase. Just click Start to begin.

How to use it

  1. Optionally adjust the work, short break, and long break durations in the settings area.
  2. Click Start to begin the first work session.
  3. When the timer beeps, take your break. Click Start again to begin the next phase.
  4. After four work sessions, a long break is automatically scheduled.
  5. Click Skip Phase to move to the next phase without waiting.

FAQ

Does the timer work if I switch tabs?
Yes. The timer uses Date.now() to track elapsed time, so it continues accurately even when the tab is in the background. The audio alert will play when the phase ends.
Can I change the durations mid-session?
Setting changes take effect on the next reset. This prevents accidental time changes mid-session.
What do the dots represent?
Each dot represents one work session within the current long-break cycle. Filled dots are completed sessions.
